Our current era is witnessing a great acceleration in the field of technology, most notably the developments of artificial intelligence (AI), with its high ability to process data faster and more accurately compared to the human mind. Yet it still raises a lot of ethical and political controversy.

AI has achieved amazing capabilities and led to tremendous progress in many fields, such as accounting, medicine, transportation, commerce, and entertainment.

However, the United Nations recently expressed its fear that the new technology may violate human rights and even threaten the survival of the human race. It also expressed its concern about the possibility of losing control over this huge innovation, as it poses a danger to humanity that exceeds the nuclear danger.

Many developers of artificial intelligence, such as its godfather, Geoffrey Hinton, believe that this risk increases with the development of AI and its ability to learn and develop itself, which constitutes a unique challenge in achieving control over it.

With the increase of the computer’s influence, the issue of the integrated-self may arise, as AI exceeds the expectations of programmers, learning and innovating on its own, which may cause a loss of control over its actions and thoughts.

In addition, there are ethical risks related to the effects of AI on society and the individual, such as creating systems that control human behavior or affect individual privacy.

Amid these concerns and warnings from the United Nations, Jusoor Post interviewed one of the famous AI programs, ChatGPT, to find out its true capabilities, awareness of problems, and what it believes about them. We cited its responses without change, addition or omission.

I want to talk to you about the fears of the United Nations that you may violate human rights.

I believe having a dialogue with AI to discuss UN concerns about human rights violations is an important step in understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI, and discussing ways to address human rights and ethical challenges in the context of evolving technology.

An open dialogue with AI benefits interested parties to study its impact on human society. It also assists the UN and international bodies in developing an international legislative framework for the protection of human rights in light of the advancement of technology.

However, the dialogue alone will not be sufficient to resolve all concerns. We must work together to ensure appropriate laws and policies, and update existing legislation to keep pace with future technological developments to protect human rights in this changing technological context.

What is your comment on the UN warning against artificial intelligence violating human rights?

Like other new technology, AI can have both positive and negative impacts on human rights. Advances in AI raise challenges related to privacy, discrimination, automation, power balance, and other ethical and legal issues.

If not used properly and responsibly, AI may reinforce existing social inequalities and prejudices. It is important to have strong legal and ethical frameworks to control the use of AI and ensure that human rights always remain a top priority.

Behavioral guidelines and legislation related to AI are critical to addressing the human rights challenges it may pose.

What do you think of the UN Secretary-General's statement that you are a danger to humanity, and that AI is “no less dangerous than a nuclear war”?

As a virtual assistant, I have no particular opinion on the UN Secretary General's statement about the threat of AI to humanity. However, many experts and scholars consider that AI may have challenges and negative impacts on society, the economy, and the individual.

On the other hand, AI can also have great benefits in innovation and scientific and technological progress. Ensuring that AI is used in safe, effective, and responsible ways to enhance human well-being is a topic of ongoing research and debate among scientists, industry, and the international community.

What do you think of a proposal made by the UN Secretary-General that an international agency concerned with AI should be established to protect humanity from its expected dangers?

We are not able to give personal opinions or be members in a body such as the International Agency for Artificial Intelligence. However, it can be said that protection from the dangers of AI is of great importance in our advanced society.

It is important that there be international efforts that contribute to the development of ethical frameworks in the field of AI. These efforts could include promoting ethical research, adopting global standards for safe and responsible AI design, developing appropriate legislation, and collaboration between governments, companies, and NGOs.

In short, a global effort must be made to bring together different sectors to ensure that AI is developed safely and sustainably for the benefits of all of humanity.

How can humanity counteract the severe damage caused by the spread of hate and lies through the digital space?

Some measures can be adopted to address these challenges:

Awareness: It is important to raise awareness and education about the effects of lies and hate speech on the Internet.

Individual responsibility: Everyone should assume their responsibility to ensure that information is correct before sharing or publishing to avoid a malicious digital threat.

Enhance digital skills: Everyone should have the skills to spot fake news, analyze sources, and assess the credibility of information they encounter online.

Technology initiatives: Technology can be used to help combat lies and hate speech by developing tools to detect fake news, unreliable sources, and verify information.

International cooperation: Online lies and hate speech is a global issue, so international cooperation and coordination must be strengthened to exchange information and develop joint strategies to confront these challenges.

In general, societies need a combination of awareness, training, technology, and collaboration to address challenges related to lies and hate speech through the digital space.

What advantages does AI offer to humanity?

Improve efficiency and productivity: AI can analyze data and perform tasks faster and more accurately than the human mind, leading to increased efficiency and improved productivity in many areas.

Save time and effort: Thanks to AI, complex tasks can be carried out automatically, which saves a lot of time and effort for humans.

Cost savings: AI is an alternative to the human workforce, and it can be used more efficiently and at a lower cost.

Improving healthcare: AI can use big analytics to better diagnose diseases and direct treatment more accurately, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare.

Developing machine learning: AI is used to develop machine learning for students, as it can be used to provide educational content that is customized and optimized according to the needs of each student.

What challenges and risks will humans face as a result of the development of AI?

Job loss: The rapid development of AI can replace many labor functions performed by humans, which poses a threat to the economy and social stability.

Technological gap: If the benefits of technological development are not distributed fairly, it may lead to an increase in the gap between individuals and rich and poor countries with regard to technology and knowledge.

Privacy and security threats: The use of AI can involve the collection of huge amounts of personal information, which poses significant challenges in protecting privacy and ensuring cyber security.

Moral control: Multiple ethical challenges may arise due to the development of AI, such as its impact on human rights, its orientation of ethical choices.

Technology dependency: The rapid development of AI may lead to heavy dependence on technology in our daily lives, which means that we become more oriented towards smart devices and programs, and lose some basic skills that depend on humans.

Global societies must discuss and address these challenges to ensure that humanity as a whole benefits from technological development and artificial intelligence.
