CAIRO – June 1, 2022: Myanmar's largest city, Yangon, witnessed a bomb explosion, killing one person and injuring nine others, according to the Washington Post, which quoted the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper on Wednesday, June 1.

The government is accusing the People's Defense Forces (PDF), the military wing of the opposition movement, without mentioning direct evidence.

In response to the accusations, a spokesman for the opposition, which commands the PDF, said the bombings were carried out by the government.

Myanmar is witnessing large-scale peaceful protests that have been violently suppressed by the army and police after the army's coup last year against the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. This forced opponents of military rule to launch an armed rebellion in many parts of the country.

Amnesty International has alleged that widespread atrocities committed by the Myanmar military in the eastern part of the country may constitute war crimes and possibly crimes against humanity.

The report of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners stated that 1876 civilians were killed by the coup forces, explaining that this figure does not include their numbers of victims in the country's rural areas.

According to Save the Children, the country witnessed more than 250 attacks on schools during the past month, accounting for about three quarters of the bombings in the country.
