UN peacekeeper killed, 3 injured in Mali
A United Nation’s peacekeeper was killed and three others were injured on Wednesday morning in an attack on their convoy in Kidal, northern Mali, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) spokesperson, Oliver Salgado, wrote on Twitter.
A Jordanian security official, who refused to be identified, told AFP the casualties were part of the mission’s Jordanian contingent.
“Their convoy came under direct fire with small arms and RPGs for about an hour,” Salgado tweeted.
“Unfortunately, one of the blue helmets succumbed to his wounds following the attack,” he posted later in French.
According to the UN, the total fatalities of MINUSMA since 1948 until March 31, 2022 reached 272 peacekeepers.
