World Health Day celebrated with ‘Health For All’
Family hands holding red heart

Health is wealth. Being healthy implies being in good mental and emotional health as well as being physically fit. Your lifestyle should include a commitment to good health. A healthy lifestyle can aid in the prevention of chronic diseases and debilitating conditions. Your self-esteem and self-image depend on how you feel about yourself and how well you take care of your physical and mental well-being.

World Health Day (WHD) is held every year on April 7 to remind us of the importance of maintaining our psychological, physical, and mental health.

Background

In order to promote health, maintain global security, and assist the vulnerable – so that everyone everywhere can achieve the maximum degree of health and well-being – countries from all over the world came together and formed the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. They also decided to celebrate WHD each year with effect from 1950. The chance to reflect on public health achievements that have raised quality of life over the past seven decades is provided by WHO's 75th anniversary year. It is also a chance to inspire action to address the current and upcoming health concerns, according to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

2023 theme

WHD aims to raise awareness of health concerns and draw attention to the dangers of unhealthy practices.

According to the Evening Standard, “Health For All” is the theme of World Health Day in 2023.

The WHO wishes to take advantage of the 75th anniversary to reflect on the changes in medicine and health care that have helped so many people live longer and with a better quality of life.

The WHO has a number of articles for 2023 that celebrate “public health milestones” over the previous 75 years. It also said that it is a chance to inspire action to address current and future health concerns.

How to lead a healthy life?

An Indiana University paper by Yiqing Song, professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology at the Fairbanks School of Public Health, included many tips to maintain a healthy lifestyle such as consuming wholesome meals and fewer unhealthy foods, engaging in regular workout and physical activity, shortening screen and sitting time, and getting enough restful sleep.

We cannot disregard mental and emotional health as well. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy highlighted the power of attitude, which can increase vitality, develop inner power, motivate others, and give the resolve to overcome obstacles.

It also refers to self-care and coping techniques, which qualify the individual to handle the stress of living with peripheral neuropathy and take care of daily physical requirements. It is also important to take a break to do something we are passionate about to prevent stress and life's obligations from taking over.

Spending time with uplifting people is another important tip. We need to be in a positive energy environment to be in a sound mental and emotional state. Keeping an upbeat attitude while overcoming these challenges is helpful. We should surround ourselves with supportive friends and constantly see the positive side of things. There is always an advantage to a situation, even if we find ourselves in the worst possible circumstance.
