On Friday, June 28, the Jusoor International Center for Media and Development will hold an international workshop at the University of Geneva in Switzerland under the title “The Role of the Media in Supporting and Advocating for Refugee Issues”.

An elite group of specialists and researchers will participate in the workshop, with the aim of exploring methods for addressing the challenges faced by refugees, displaced persons, and victims of conflict through media, advocacy efforts, and development initiatives.

The head of the Jusoor International Center for Media and Development, Mohamed Al-Hammadi, said that the workshop will examine a number of topics, the first of which is “the role of the media and its challenges,” which will explore media’s advocacy for refugee rights, influencing opinions, policies and resources, and highlighting the risks that threaten freedom of the press in conflict areas.

Hammadi explained that the workshop will also discuss “development strategies and policies” by presenting successful initiatives to empower refugees, areas that need improvement, and comparing global policies regarding receiving refugees.

The workshop will also include the “legal and political frameworks axis,” in which the legal protection of refugees and the roles of legal experts will be discussed, and attendees will highlight the advocacy of civil society and local authorities for refugee rights and effective cooperation in the field of policies.

It is noteworthy that the Jusoor International Center for Media and Development is an international organization that works to develop positive practices related to media and human development, and contributes to enhancing constructive initiatives for all actors in the field of media and human development issues.
